Some cheerful past we're always but recalling,
But bliss is everywhere. It may live there:
Behind the barn, the autumn garden, jolly
And through my window streams the clean, sweet air.

A cloud in the sky that's bright and boundless
Arises like a light, white strip that glows.
Long hours viewed. We know scantly what's around us
And happiness is just for those who know.

The window’s open, and a bird chirped, landing
Down on my windowsill. I turn from books
For just a second. Tired is my look.

The evening sky is emptied, sun descending.
The threshing floor makes noise, and now I see,
I hear, I’m thrilled. All joy resides in me.
