Lesson 33: Take down the king. May 12th, 2006
On this show, we discussed the phrasal verb “to take down” . It is a transitive verb, and so the direct object is separable. Remember: if the D.O is a pronoun, it must come in the middle.
“to take down” has several meanings:
1) it can mean to remove something from a high position. e.g.: take that book down; take down that book.
2) it can mean to write from dictation or to write something down on something. e.g: take this down please.
3) it can mean to move someone or something to a lower position. e.g: I should take Bob down.
